Post-Festival Recovery: How to Clean Your Gear and Get Your Voice Back
1. Start With the Gear Before It Becomes a Problem
Tent First, Always
Unpack within 24 hours of getting home. A tent sealed with moisture inside grows mold in under a week.
Air Dry Boots
Radiators and tumble-dryers destroy leather and synthetic uppers. Patience beats replacement every time.
2. Your Body Needs a Reset Too
Sleep First, Everything Else Second
Your body prioritises sleep over hydration over food. Sort them in that order for the first 48 hours.
Hydrate With Electrolytes
Plain water flushes you through. A tab of Nuun or Dioralyte actually restores what three days of sweat and beer took out.
3. Getting Your Voice Back Isn’t Instant
No Whispering
Whispering strains vocal cords more than speaking at normal volume. Counterintuitive but true.
Honey + Warm Water
Old trick, genuinely works. Soothes the tissue and keeps you off throat-clearing, which is what actually damages your cords.
4. The Smell Situation Is Real
Unseal Everything
Open every bag, every compartment. Hang everything up. Fresh air does more than any laundry powder.
Soak Before You Wash
For really bad items, a 30-minute soak in cold water with a splash of vinegar breaks down the smell at the fibre level.
No Plastic Storage
Even clean gear shouldn't go into sealed plastic for at least 48 hours after the festival — any residual moisture becomes mildew.
5. Check Your Gear Before You Forget
The Mental Come-Down Is Normal Too
