Amon Amarth

Amon Amarth, a Swedish melodic death metal band, was formed in 1992 in Tumba, a suburb of Stockholm. The band’s name is derived from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, translating to “Mount Doom” in Sindarin. The original lineup consisted of Johan Hegg (vocals), Olavi Mikkonen (guitar), Ted Lundström (bass), and Anders Hansson (drums). Known for their Viking-themed lyrics, Amon Amarth’s early albums like “Once Sent from the Golden Hall” (1998) and “The Avenger” (1999) established their reputation within the death metal community. However, it was the 2008 album “Twilight of the Thunder God” that marked a significant breakthrough, featuring epic melodies, powerful vocals and Norse mythology-inspired themes. The band’s popularity grew internationally with subsequent releases like “Surtur Rising” (2011) and “Jomsviking” (2016).
